Google's foldable phone has been delayed agai
Despite Google's long-rumored Pixel Watch announcement, there's still no indication of a foldable Pixel Fold phone from the company, and we probably won't see it for another year.
There have been rumors about this device over the past couple of years, as the market for foldable devices continues to expand exponentially.
The company had planned to launch the project sometime during the fourth quarter but delayed its launch this year. This is the second delay for the American company to launch, as it had originally planned to display the phone late last year, but it was postponed to this year.
According to reports, the launch of a foldable phone from Google has been postponed until next spring. The company was originally expected to unveil the device in 2021. But this prediction has been pushed back to the fourth quarter of 2022.
This latest delay may explain why the device didn't show up at Google I/O earlier this month along with a preview of the future Pixel tablet.
The delay is likely due to the product not being completed as desired by the company. According to multiple sources in the supply chain, Google's launch of the foldable phone has been delayed until next spring.
This gives Google plenty of time to develop Android 13, which should provide a much better experience when using different apps on a larger screen.
Previous leaks indicate that Google is internally testing two designs of the device, the Passport and Jumbojack. And while the Jumbojack folds horizontally like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, the Passport folds vertically like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
And the foldable device can come with screens from Samsung. The Passport features a 7.57-inch screen on the inside and a 5.78-inch screen on the outside.
Samsung Display, which is the only company that can manufacture foldable OLED panels, is focusing on supplying parent company Samsung with panels for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4.
Samsung aims to ship about 15 million units of new phones. That is more than double its previous shipments of 7.1 million units.
Google is now focused on launching the highly anticipated Pixel Watch and Pixel 7. As a result, it seems unlikely that the company will decide to reveal the foldable phone at this fall's Pixel event.
And by the time the Pixel Fold arrives, it will have to compete with the likes of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 alongside the current line-up of the best foldable phones.
But what might help distinguish the Google version from the crowd is the potential use of the Tensor chip along with the camera.
